Why A DJ And Not A Band?

1.  DJs cost less than bands.  In our area a good band that plays wedding receptions and
corporate events can run as high as $3000, while the average price for a DJ is $400-
    $1200

2.  DJs don't take breaks.  A band typically takes a 15 to 20 minute break every hour.  A DJ
plays with no interruptions in music from start to finish.  You will always have music playing
     at your event.

3.  A band has a limited number of songs that they know.  A typical wedding/corporate band
might know as many as 200 songs.  A DJ typically brings thousands of music selections.
From Big Band to hip hop, from the '40s to the present, we bring over 20,000 songs to
     every event.

4.  A band simply cannot perform certain songs.  If they don't have a female singer or a brass
section or a singer that sounds like Al Green, then they are better off not doing that song.
A DJ brings the original artists and the original recordings.  It's the song you remember when
you hear it, not the band's best attempt.

5.  Too loud!  This is the number one complaint about live bands.  DJs can easily turn the
volume up or down depending on the atmosphere of the event and the wishes of the client.
Incidentally, we rarely get requests to turn down the music but frequently get requests
     to turn it up.

6. Bands rely on all of their members to show up.  If one of them quits the band or gets sick
you might get a dramatically different sound than what you wanted.  Or you might get
    NO band!

7.  DJs take up less space.  In some venues this might leave space for additional tables oe
    a larger dance floor.

9.  In all fairness, a GOOD band can bring an energy and excitement to your event that even
a good DJ can't match.  But be prepared to pay top dollar.

Classic Sounds Entertainment often teams up with The Ryan Corbitt Trio featuring Gina Romano as the lead vocalist.  While not a high-energy cover band, we've found the addition of some live music into a DJ event can be a particularly effective combination.

Typically performing jazz standards during the first hour or two (such as through cocktails or dinner), Gina and her live musicians bring an entertainment experience and a touch of class that is both appropriate for the early hours of an event and especially pleasing to any older guests.

Later in the evening, with dinner etc. out of the way, the DJ takes over and the dance floor opens up with some high-energy dance music.

Combining live jazz standards early in the evening and DJ dance music later in the evening gives us an effective "something for everybody" approach for appealing to a wide variety of age groups typically found at an event such as a wedding reception.
